Online Credit Card Application
Online application is a great modern convenience. It saves time, effort, and
money too (no postage). You can compare many cards, and then apply to one (or
more) of the cards that appeal to your needs, all from your home computer. The
application process is still the same. You will need to supply your personal
financial information (income, social security number, employer), your contact
information (name, address, phone number), and some other information such as
mother's maiden name, date of birth, how long you've lived at your residence,
e-mail address, questions about credit history, etc. It varies slightly from
card to card but these are the kinds of questions you should expect. Then you
have to wait for approval. When you are approved you get your credit card by
mail.
Online Credit Card Safety
It's generally safe to apply for a credit card online. Online applications use
a secure connection, which encodes your information. That means the information
would look scrambled and be unidentifiable if someone other than you or the
credit card company were to try to look at it, which then keeps your
information safe. Make sure there is a little lock symbol in the bottom corner
of your computer screen when you are filling out an online credit card
application. This will mean you are on a secure connection. Credit card
websites will have privacy policies, security policies, and other terms links
along the bottom of the website which you can read to double check on what they
do to protect you. If you can’t find this information do not apply on this
site. This is also why it is best to apply with a company you recognize because
you wouldn't want to give you personal information to a false company.
Online Credit Card Applications verses by Mail
If you think it is safer to apply by mail, think again. Mail theft is growing
and people can steal your personal information by taking a credit card
application out of your mailbox. If you insist on mailing an application be
sure to take it straight to the post office. However, online application is
safe if not safer than by mail.
